We had published the recipe of Kaale Chane a few days back. This recipe of Sukhe Kaale Chane is just another version of the dish. This is a South Indian style preparation with the use of coconut. This is also offered as prasad in Southern India while performing religious rituals.
Ingredients:
- Kala Chana (Black chickpeas) – 1 cup
- Dried whole red chillies dried- 2 pieces
- Julienne Ginger – 1/2 teaspoon
- Mustard Seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Asafoetida(hing) – 1 pinch
- Curry Leaves – 8-9 pieces
- Oil – 1 tablespoon
- Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
- Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
- Salt to taste
Preparation Time: 15 mins. (without soaking time)
Cooking Time: 20 mins.
Servings: 3-4 persons
Method
Soak kala chana in water for 7-8 hours.
In a pressure cooker, cook kala chana in around 3/4th cup of water with salt.
After one whistle, lower the heat and then keep it on low flame for 5-6 minutes. Turn off the stove.
Now, put oil in a large pan. Once oil is hot, add hing, mustard seeds, whole dried red chillies, curry leaves and ginger. Once the spluttering starts, add boiled kala chana and coriander powder.
Let it cook till it is dry. Turn off the stove. Garnish with grated coconut.
Sukhe Kaale Chane is ready to be served. Relish it as it is or serve kaale chane with pooris.
