Atte ka Sheera or Halwa is a delicious sweet dish made using wheat flour. This is a family favorite and hence, a common item on the menu every now and then. It requires very few ingredients making it one of the most convenient quick desserts on a party menu or for festivals.
Ingredients:
- Atta (Wheat Flour) – 1 cup
- Sugar – 1 cup
- Melted Ghee – 1/2 cup (You can add little more during cooking if you feel the need)
- Finely chopped roasted cashew nuts – 8-10
- Water – 3 cups
Servings: 5-6 persons
Preparation & Cooking time: 25-30 mins.
Method
Take a kadhai or heavy bottomed pan and add ghee to it. Heat it and then add atta.
Stir and cook on high flame for a couple of minutes till atta absorbs the ghee well.
Now start cooking on low flame and keep stirring the atta till it turns dark brown and releases aroma. The ghee will also start leaving the sheera/halwa at this stage.
Now slowly start adding warm water and keep stirring continuously while adding water to avoid lumps. Once a smooth consistency is achieved, add sugar and mix well again for 2 minutes.
Turn off the heat. Atte ka Sheera is ready. Garnish with chopped cashew nuts.
Serve Atte ka Sheera hot or cold as per your preference. Some even like having it at room temperature. You can relish it as it is or can serve it along with pooris.
