Ragi Chilla is a super breakfast dish made from a super food item called Ragi. We never really used Ragi much in our cooking till we had a small kid at home. The pediatrician strongly recommended adding Ragi in her diet as it is extremely nutritious with a plethora of health benefits. This prompted us to come up with the idea of making Ragi Chilla for breakfast which the whole family relishes regularly now. Ragi is rich in iron, calcium, proteins, minerals and vitamins making it truly a wonder cereal in every sense.
Ingredients :
- Ragi Flour – 1 cup
- Sooji – 1 cup
- Curd – 1 cup
- Onions, finely chopped – 1, medium sized
- Green Chillies, finely chopped – 2-3
- Few Coriander leaves, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Servings: 3-4 persons
Preparation Time: 10 mins.
Cooking time : 10-15 mins.
Method
Take a large bowl and add ragi flour, sooji, curd, onions, green chillies, salt and coriander leaves.
Mix well with a spoon. Now add around 1 cup of water and again mix well to form a smooth batter.
The desired consistency of the batter should be such that it should spread a bit by itself on the frying pan/non-stick tawa and not start collecting at the center. If the consistency is not right, add little more water till the batter is as required.
Now take a frying pan/non-stick tawa and heat it after slightly oiling it. Wipe the oil with a kitchen towel.
Take a full large round spoon of batter and gently pour at the center of the pan. Spread with the help of spoon from center to outside in a circular motion, into a round shape. Put one teaspoonful of oil around the spread batter.
Let the chilla get cooked till underside is brown. With the help of a spatula, gently turn over the chilla and let it cook till the other side is also brown.
Serve hot with ketchup or a chutney of your choice.
