Moong Dal Chilla

Ingredients:

  • Moong dal(split yellow gram) – 2  cups
  • 2-3 Onions
  • 4-5 Green chillies
  • Coriander leaves – one small bunch
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Servings: 10-15 chillas

Preparation Time: 3 Hours

Cooking Time: 1 Hour

Method

Wash the moong dal with water and soak it for 2 to 2 ½ hours. Drain and grind the moong dal to a smooth paste adding 1 ½ cup of water. Take the batter in a bowl and add salt.

Chop onions, green chillies and coriander leaves separately in small pieces and keep aside.

Heat a frying pan (heavy bottom tava)  after slightly oiling it. Wipe the oil with a kitchen towel. Put little batter on the tava to check that the consistency of batter is correct and it is coming out well with spatula. If required, add little water to improve consistency.

Take a full large round spoon of batter and gently pour at the centre of the pan and spread with the help of spoon from centre to outside in a circular motion. Put one teaspoonful of oil (or as required) around the spread batter.

Sprinkle chopped onion, chilly and coriander leaves of required quantity on the spread batter and let the chilla be cooked till underside is brown.

With the help of spatula flip and fold the two sides of chilla one over the other. Turn the folded chilla and let it cook for a while.

Serve hot with green chutney and garlic chutney.
