Sabudana Tikki is a nutritious, lightly spiced and lip-smacking snack which is prepared using Sabudana or Tapioca Pearls or Sago. This is a wonderful option to be had during days of “fasting” as it is filling and at the same time, being shallow fried, it’s light on stomach. Tapioca or Sabudana is a good source of protein, which helps with muscle building and strengthening. It is also rich in iron and calcium which helps maintain bone health.
Ingredients:
- Potatoes – 250 gms.
- Sabudana – ¾ cup
- Grated Ginger – 1 teaspoon
- Groundnuts – ¼ cup
- Green Chillies – 2-3
- Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves – 2 tablespoons
- Black Pepper Powder – ¼ teaspoon
- Oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Preparation Time: 2 Hours
Cooking Time: 10 mins.
Servings: 10-12 pieces
Method
Soak sabudana in equal quantity of water for around 2 hours. Drain the excess water.
Simultaneously, boil the potatoes. Peel and mash the potatoes well.
Now roast the groundnuts and remove their skin. Grind the groundnuts coarsely.
Finely chop the green chillies. Mix all the ingredients mentioned well together.
Take equal portions of the mix prepared above and gently flatten them into the shape of tikkis.
On a grill pan, spread some oil and heat it. Place the tikkis gently and shallow fry the tikkis till both sides turn brown. Keep adjusting the heat while frying as appropriate to ensure the tikkis are well cooked.
Sabudana Tikki is ready. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or green chutney.
Note: Using the same ingredients, you can make sabudana vadas which can be deep fried.
