Roasted Masala Idli is one of the best ways to utilize left-over idli and makes for a perfect breakfast item. I did not know of this dish earlier and would always worry about idli getting wasted when made in large numbers for any get together. For all others as well who are not aware of this dish and have the same concern, here is your answer! Roasted Masala Idli can also be enjoyed as evening snacks and your kids will love it too.
Ingredients :
- Idli – 6 Nos.
- Mustard Seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Sesame Seeds(Til) – 2 tablespoons
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
- Groundnut – 1/4 cup
- Dried Red Chilly (whole) – 5-6 pieces
- Asafoetida(hing) – 1 pinch
- Coriander leaves(chopped) – few pieces for garnishing
- Curry Leaves – few
- Salt – one pinch
- Oil – 1 tablespoon
Servings: 2-3 persons
Preparation Time: 10-15 mins.
Cooking time : 5 mins.
Method
Roast groundnuts in a pan for around 2 minutes and take it out in a bowl.
Now roast sesame seeds(til) for a minute and keep in the bowl. Repeat the process with 2-3 dried red chillies.
Grind the roasted ingredients after they are cooled into a powder and keep aside.
Cut idlies into pieces.Heat a pan and add oil. After it becomes hot, turn the flame to low.
Add hing, mustard seeds, curry leaves and remaining dried red chillies(broken in pieces).
Now add the idly pieces, ground ingredients, turmeric powder and one pinch of salt.
Mix gently and turn over, and cook for a minute or two. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Roasted Masala Idli is ready. Serve hot with any chutney or sauce of your choice.
